In our last few blog postings, we've been talking about the 24 Real Metabolic Types (click here). These types are based on the "settings" of your unique metabolism.

There are three primary systems involved in REAL metabolic typing. The first system, your nervous system (and more specifically, your Autonomic Nervous System or ANS) controls the organs and glands involved in processing your food. Your second system, the Oxidative System, performs the chemical breakdown of the food you eat.

These two systems establish your "metabolic dominance." This dominance indicates which of these two main systems is the one most "in control" in your body when it comes to nutrition. Generally, one of these two systems will be dominant, and a particular "setting" within the dominant system will be in control.

Each and every person will have one of these systems in control. In order to eat correctly to improve your health, you need to know which system is in control.

But beyond improving health, many people want to lose weight. And there is a third system in REAL metabolic typing that is absolutely critical for weight loss. And that is the Endocrine system.

The Endocrine system controls your body's glands and their secretions of hormones. Hormones are the body's chemical messengers, used in conjunction with the ANS and the Oxidative System to regulate metabolism.

At the top of your profile results, you'll see a section that looks like this:

In your results, you will see a "setting" for your endocrine system. Please take a moment to find that setting in your profile. (Again, if you haven't received your profile yet, please click here.)

The endocrine system is extremely complex, with many different glands. However, when it comes to metabolism, there are four primary "glandular types". These four types describe the current "balance" among the hormone secretions in your endocrine system. That is, it describes which glands and hormones are most important in YOUR particular body.

If you are serious about losing weight, you MUST know your endocrine type. Many people gain weight because they eat food that disrupts hormone secretions. When you disrupt these secretions, your body does not get the right signals about what to do with the food you eat.

If you gain weight, your body is getting a signal to "store" the food being eaten. And often times, it's the processing of food itself that is either sending the wrong signal (to store the food rather than to burn it), or interfering with the right signal being sent by your endocrine system.

By the way, this may also be true if you are underweight. Your food may be interfering with the hormones that direct the digestive process. So if you are underweight rather than overweight, your endocrine setting is just as important.

Especially for weight problems, it is not enough to just eat right for your metabolic dominance. Your diet must also account for your endocrine system.

This is the serious problem I have with the cheap $40.00 "metabolic tests" you find on the web. None of them identify your endocrine type. The worst ones identify you as a "carb type" or "protein type". And you already know from my previous blog postings and emails how wrong that approach is.

But even the best of those $40.00 tests identify only your "dominant" metabolic type. But unfortunately, if weight loss is your goal, eating right for your dominant type is NOT enough to ensure weight loss.

Every so often, I hear from people who say, "Well, I tried metabolic typing, and I didn't lose weight!"

When I hear from someone like that, I have to ask them only one question - "What is your endocrine type?" If they don't know their endocrine type from the so-called metabolic test they took, then I tell them it's no wonder they didn't lose weight.

You can eat right for your metabolic type for a year, but you WON'T lose weight if you are eating wrong for your endocrine type.

REAL metabolic typing includes not only your metabolic dominance, but also your endocrine type. If you eat right for both your dominant and endocrine types, you will definitely control your weight and have yourself looking and feeling better in no time!
