The MetaTyping™ Nutrition BlogImprove Your Health, Control Your Weight, and Extend Your Life with REAL Metabolic Typing!Heartburn? You May Have TOO LITTLE Stomach Acid! From: The MetaTyping Nutrition Blog
Greetings, I know that many of you have ALREADY taken the first step toward improving your health by completing the Metabolic Typing Test included with the MetaTyping Nutrition Program. (If you don't know your metabolic type, click here.) With your new Metabolic Profile in hand, you are starting to eat according to your diet plan, and working with your Diet Check Record sheets and Diet Symptom Journal. For many people - that's all it takes! I hear all the time from people who are thrilled with the results. But what if you are not receiving all of the benefits you expected? What if you are still having problems with your health or with weight control? Even if you eat the right foods for your metabolic type, it's important that you properly absorb what you are eating for you to benefit fully from its nutritional value. This starts with digestion. Digestion begins when food is taken into your mouth, and ends with elimination 24 hours later. But in between, the major portion of digestion occurs in the stomach. If all goes well, the stomach does its job, breaking your food down before it passes into your small intestine. However, two common conditions can happen in the stomach that interfere with digestion:
Ironically, both conditions actually have THE SAME SYMPTOMS! These can include burping, belching, bloating, "heartburn", gas, sour stomach, undigested food in stool, slow digestion, diarrhea or constipation. So keep in mind, if you have heartburn, and you grab an antacid (acid neutralizer) - you may make your problem worse! That's because the symptom might be from too little stomach acid, and you are further neutralizing what little you have! As a matter of fact, some experts believe that hypochlorhydria (too little stomach acid) is MUCH MORE COMMON than hyperchlorhydria (too much stomach acid). So if those antacids never seem to work, that may be because you have too little stomach acid to begin with. So if you have these symptoms, you should FIRST explore whether you have too little stomach acid. Instead of reaching for an antacid, try taking the additional HCL supplements listed on your metabolic profile results. (And make sure you use the recommended HCL listed on your profile, because it has been designed for your metabolic type!) If you find that adding additional HCL and digestive enzymes helps your digestion and makes you feel better, then you know you need additional stomach acid for optimal digestion. How does HCL help the digestive system? HCL begins with the breakdown of protein. When food is present in the stomach, it activates an enzyme called "pepsin" which further breaks down protein. In addition, without enough HCL, digestion of minerals, expecially calcium, can't take place. HCL also protects the stomach against orally-ingested pathogens, prevents bacterial or fungal overgrowth of the small intestine, and encourages the flow of bile and pancreatic enzymes. So stomach acid not only helps in digestion, but it serves many other important functions. It helps keep your body free from developing disease. Now you understand why having enough stomach acid is so important in helping you digest and utilize the nutrients to nourish all of your billions of cells. And how a lack of enough stomach acid can cause many problems. Don't miss out! You've taken the first step to improving your health with the MetaTyping Nutrition Plan. Now, make sure you are fully digesting all of the right foods you are eating to receive the maximum benefits! Wishing you the best in health and longevity,
